When the 1993 Mazda RX-7 was diagnosed as needing another new engine after only 15,000 miles, I decided to get rid of it and get a different sports car. A convertible this time. After lots of shopping and test-driving, I settled on a BMW Z4. I couldn't find a Z4 on the lot with exactly the set of features I wanted, so I had to order one from the factory in Spartanburg, South Carolina (yes, the BMW Z4 is an American-built car). Just for fun, I decided to pick up the Z4 at the factory instead of taking delivery at my local dealer. This is the travelogue of that trip.
