Now that it's light out, we can document the Big Sur River Inn. We don't have a hard deadline today, but we want to arrive at Lilith Fair before any of the big acts play. That gives us some leisure in Big Sur. Below is the outside of our suite, viewed from the back. Ours is on the ground floor in the middle.
The river runs behind the hotel. Various rustic furniture sits in the river for cooling off (though it was hardly necessary to cool off this morning; the weather was very nice). Julie is walking on dry rocks, but the water is so clear you probably can't see where the water's edge is in this picture.
Ellen walking the same path. The yellow sheet is our 10% discount coupon for breakfast, which is next on the agenda.
The view downstream on the river.
... and the view upstream.
Waiting on the bench down by the river.
... still waiting.
Here's an art shot of a stump. Aren't you glad you waited for this to download?
Even after breakfast, our heads were still in the clouds, as you can see below. This fog did intersect the road in a few places on the drive down to Carmel.
We were there.
We, too, were there.
Here's the obligatory waiting-for-food group portrait. Look up, Julie!
... that's good, thanks for looking up.
Ellen just had to stop at Carmel. Unfortunately the coastal morning chill and fog hadn't lifted in Carmel, and it wasn't very pleasant there. Nevertheless, we made it down to the water.
Here's the view between sets at Lilith Fair. Cameras were not allowed into the amphitheatre, but Paul brought one in anyway. As you can see, we had crummy seats, thanks to last-minute planning.
Before the last artist (Sarah McLachlan) played, there was an intermission with the house lights up. We amused ourselves by attempting group self-portraits with the digital camera. This would have been a lot easier with a tripod.
After the concert, it took over an hour to get out of the parking lot. By the time we got back to the hotel, we were bushed.
